Rugs and Blankets
Rag rugs are designed for the floor but are sometimes used to protect a sofa, coffee table, etc.. Made with sturdy cord and strips of recycled cloth. Very practical, durable and in beautiful colour combinations. Totally machine-washable. Careful choice of fabric is as necessary as in hand-sewn quilts.
Rag rugs are a family tradition in my home. My grandmother was from Finland and I have some of her handwoven rugs that have been in use for close to a century now. In Quebec, there is also a strong tradition of Rag Rugs. It is a thrifty and practical way to recycle cloth into a durable and useful rug. Placed next to a sink, door, bed, table, they are a comfortable way to protect the floor and absorb water while complementing the colour combinations in a room.
Rag Rug costs vary, largely determined by size - about $1.00 a running inch in a 22-inch wide rug is an approximate costing formula. |
